Have you ever been disqualified or ineligible for something in your life? 

    It could have been anything … from a health issue that disqualifies you from life insurance.  Or financial issues that disqualifies you for a loan or better financing. Or a college football team ineligible for a bowl game. A player disqualified for violating rules. A job review that disqualifies you for a promotion or a raise.  Or even a moral failure… which you feel disqualifies you for grace or love from God. But whatever it is… when you are disqualified … ineligible… you feel pretty crummy… kind of hopeless. So, what would you say if somehow, that disqualification got overruled?  Not that what happened did not happen… but that somehow … grace was shown, forgiveness offered, full restoration provided.  How would you feel then? Elated, overjoyed… restored hope.   A second chance. 

    Well, in Matthew’s gospel chapter 1, we look at a list of people who would become part of the genealogy of Jesus.  Many of them would have felt at the time that they were disqualified to be part of anything significant or important…  let alone be included as an ancestor of the Messiah. 

   And yet… that’s exactly how God brought about the birth of Jesus. As we celebrate the Advent of Hope… God brings hope to you… even when you feel disqualified.   And that’s … real life. ~Pastor Steve Rowe – Eaglebrook Church
