Character … and the evidence of an inward change for the good … is revealed in the little things.
Our culture has a flair for the dramatic, the bigger the better. It’s almost like a drug. Nobody says… “hey – look at how well that player dribbles that basketball!” They say, “Wow, did you see that dunk in the other player’s face!” That’s just one example. And yet… it’s the little things that reveal the character of a person, the discipline, the willingness to do the right thing even when no one is looking . It’s also in the little things that reveal a true heart change. You don’t have to buy your wife 2 dozen roses to prove you’ve changed. Just start being there, saying kind and encouraging words, keeping your word. Stuff like that. Little things … things that really show what’s going on in the inside. Well, that’s what happens in our study in the book of Acts. A young man named Aeneas, (probably a teenager) became a cripple. His bed was also a mess. The Apostle Peter prays for him and says two things… “stand up”… and “make your bed.” I’m not sure which one his momma thought was the greater miracle! And while the healing may be more dramatic, he had no power to do that. But… he could make his bed… as a sign … that something had changed inside of him. So start small… just make your bed! And that’s … real life. ~ Pastor Steve Rowe – Eaglebrook Church
