    Real Life

A heart that is discontent or entitled finds it hard to be thankful no matter what the circumstance… a heart at peace can be thankful in all circumstances.

It’s November… the month that reminds us to give thanks.  Not just once a year, but as a frame of mind.  And we really could use that reminder as a culture right about now.

The scripture we are studying this Sunday says, “give thanks in all circumstances.” But it clearly does not say give thanks “for” all circumstances.

Trust me, there are a lot of things in our culture, our world, and in our own lives that we do not have to be thankful “for.”  And that’s ok… God does not expect us to be. However, He has asked us to be thankful “in” everything.  And that comes down to a ‘heart’ issue.

Think about it… since a heart that is discontent or entitled has a hard time being thankful even when they do get their way, imagine how that heart reacts when they do not get their way.  It is a miserable existence, and it makes everyone around you miserable.

Which is why God has given us the solution to a discontented or entitled heart… and that is His Peace… through Christ… in us. A heart at peace can be thankful “in” any circumstance. And rather than misery, we bring life and hope to those around us.  May that be you today!  And that’s … real life. ~Pastor Steve Rowe – Eaglebrook Church
