Don’t worry about who other people are, what they have, and what you do not have… just be the best “you” that you can be!

  That seems so lame and trite… but it is oh so true.  How do I know?  Because it’s the nature of a fallen human being to be jealous, to question the fairness of life.  Regarding good things, when other people “get” what we feel we deserve or that we want, we get jealous and say it’s not fair.  Regarding bad things, when they happen to us and not other people, we think, “Why me?  What did I do to deserve this?” 

  So that opening line may be trite, but it is true.  As a matter of fact, Jesus said something just like this to the Apostle Peter.  Jesus told Peter that at some point Peter was going to die as a martyr.  That got Peter’s attention… I mean… how is that fair?  So he asked, “what about John? What’s going to happen to him?”  And Jesus said, and I paraphrase… “don’t worry about what happens to John… just follow me… just be the “you” that I’ve called you to be.” 

  If we did that… just followed Jesus without worrying about comparing ourselves to others… we wouldn’t get so wrecked with jealousy… we wouldn’t feel that God was out to “get us.”  And we would live with much more contentment… knowing our purpose comes first from following Him!
