“Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater.” ~ famous idiomatic expression

In other words, don’t throw out what is good, valuable, the most important… just because what you’ve seen, heard, or experienced has been hurtful, wrong, out of order, or worse.  We’ve all seen it happen.  We’ve seen it happen in others.

Simple disagreements end relationships. Your parent’s terrible marriage or divorce sours you on marriage for yourself.  Your distasteful church experience causes you to never want to go to church again, or feel like it’s irrelevant.  There’s so many things.

However, just because a good, or even great idea has been distorted, and has been modeled very badly, does not mean that it’s broken and should be discarded altogether.  For sure, we need to be healed from the hurts of the past… we need to see an example of a positive, healthy way it could be … but then we need to open our hearts back up again.  Relationships and friendships are worth it.  Marriage … is worth it.   And a loving, caring church community… is so worth it.

So next time you are tempted to throw something away completely, think again… there may be something valuable, important, and life changing that you would miss otherwise. And that’s … real life. ~Pastor Steve Rowe – Eaglebrook Church
