People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered.  Forgive them anyway. The good you do today, will often be forgotten.  Do good anyway. ~ Mother Theresa

That’s not our first reaction, though is it?  When people are unreasonable, we want to set them straight.  When people ignore the good we’ve tried to bless them with, or even worse, treat us poorly or with evil intent… sometimes we just feel like “what’s the point? Maybe it’s time to take revenge!”  And yet… where does that leave us?  It fills us with anger, self-righteousness, and even bitterness.

So what should we do?  Love anyway, do good anyway, forgive anyway.   Mother Theresa was right, but those thoughts did not originate with her… those thoughts are the heart of the Christian life… of living in the power of the resurrection of Jesus.

When Peter & John were arrested, warned, then released in Acts 4… they did not pray for revenge or to set their “enemies” straight.  They prayed that God’s love, His plan, His mission would continue through them in spite of hardship… that they would love, anyway.  May we, in our world, do the same.

And that’s … real life. ~Pastor Steve Rowe – Eaglebrook Church
